What is the HbA1c Test?
HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin) measures the average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. Unlike FBS or PPBS which capture a single point in time, HbA1c reflects your overall sugar control. An HbA1c of 5.7-6.4% indicates pre-diabetes, and 6.5%+ indicates diabetes. For diabetic patients, keeping HbA1c below 7% significantly reduces the risk of complications.
Why Should You Take This Test?
HbA1c gives a 3-month glucose picture, unaffected by daily fluctuations. Target for most diabetics is below 7%.
Who Should Get Tested?
Diabetic Patients
Every 3 months to monitor long-term sugar control.
Pre-Diabetics
Every 6 months to track progression.
Diabetes Screening
Doesn't require fasting — more convenient than FBS for screening.
Treatment Assessment
Check if current medications or lifestyle changes are working.
